Gourdon P. Umpkin, or "Gourdy" as he's fondly known, has a truly unique origin story.
Born (or rather, grown) in Hawkins, Indiana, in November 1983, Gourdy came into existence under rather mysterious circumstances. During that time, some strange events at a nearby government building occurred, and somehow, they infused a particular pumpkin with life. This pumpkin was none other than Gourdy.
At just 41 years old, Gourdy possesses a youthful spirit with a sense of wonder that belies his age. From the moment he budded, Gourdy was different from other pumpkins—he was lively, curious, and always looking for something new to explore.
One thing that captivated Gourdy from an early age was the beauty of sunsets. He would often find himself gazing westward, imagining the vast and colorful skies that lay beyond. This fascination eventually led him on an incredible journey, as he rolled, strolled, and tumbled his way across the country, always following the setting sun. His adventures finally brought him to Goodyear, Arizona, a place where the sunsets are as breathtaking as he had always imagined.
Now settled in Goodyear Arizona, Gourdy has become the cherished mascot of West Fest, symbolizing the spirit of adventure and the joy of the harvest season. For now, he dedicates himself to making West Fest a time of fun, laughter, and community for everyone who attends.
Every year, as the festival kicks off, Gourdy reminds everyone of the beauty of embracing the unknown and the joy that can come from following one's passions—just as he followed the sunsets all the way to Goodyear.
